Hello hermits! Me and a group of pals have a gallery space in our warehouse in Hackney Wick (E8) and are currently putting together the list of exhibitors for this years Hackney Wicked festival. We did a show last year which received hundreds of visitors and this year is set to be even bigger! Here are the details:

The Top and Tail gallery’s summer exhibition-
‘Glory Hole.’

To coincide with 'Hackney Wicked' arts festival, the Top and Tail gallery will be hosting a group exhibition of multimedia art by emerging London artists. July 31st - August 2nd 2009.

"perfectly dazzling when contrasted with the darkness and dirt we have just left…" Charles Dickens.

The Top and Tail gallery is an artist run space within a Victorian Warehouse in the heart of Hackney Wick, overlooking the station.
Now in its second year the gallery will hold host to an exciting group show for the ‘Hackney Wicked’ festival. With the pick of the surrounding studio's work, you can expect to find a collection of illustration, video art, printmaking, photography and painting from some of East London’s most intriguing artists.

Taking inspiration from the era that the building was erected, and the people of that time, the exhibition will revolve around Victorian London. From the Dickensian Gin palaces to the squalor of East end lifestyle, during the turn of the century’s’ equivalent to our recession struck times.

It is a great chance to showcase your art, last year we received hundreds of visitors, and this year is set to be even bigger! All work has to have been created in 2009, and be related to or inspired by the theme mentioned above. This can be something you are working on at the moment.
Please email us at the above address with at least one medium resolution image, a description of what you do, and a link to your website/blog if possible.

We are also interested in hearing from musicians or performance artists for other events in and around our building.
Deadline: 1st July 2009. (Note: we aren't expecting finished pieces at this stage, just ideas and images that relate to your idea.)

Thanks!

Yep, that's the one:

Taking inspiration from the era that the building was erected, and the people of that time, the exhibition will revolve around Victorian London. From the Dickensian Gin palaces to the squalor of East end lifestyle, during the turn of the century’s’ equivalent to our recession struck times.

You can pick up on any part of the theme, whether it be about Gin palaces themselves, or the escapism they provided, or even just a comment on the way of life at that time.

Thanks,
B
