Have recently been going back to playing around with acryllics and drawing, something I haven't done since University, with somewhat mixed results. Still, have been enjoying it.
This is today's piece, just slightly bigger than A4, on gessoed cardboard. The title of which, is the title above.… Continue
Well, still recovering from my traipsing around the Capital from last Thursday to Sunday, and the distinct pleasure of visiting my illustrious ex-UWE Alumni Miss Kate McMorrine, on the occasion of her show of work with Mister Alec Strang at Concrete Hermit. It was a terrific opening night, my first visit to the Hermit shop, and a pleasure to meet Head Hermit Mister Knight, who was considerate enough to introduce himself and say hello, paticularly as I am usually a bag of nerves at such giddy soc… Continue
Thanks for your kind/weird comments on my work. Us illustrators have go to stick together you know! I am just down the road in sunny Stroud. Any art info on Bristol you could share? i.e contacts, where to exhibit etc.
Hiya Paul, yeah Foldvari is a huge influence on me.. I love his work perhaps a little too much - I'm conscious of some of my work looking perhaps a little too similar as a result. I'm only in my second year of university though so I'm hoping there's plenty of time to develop some more of my own mark making skills.
Hello Paul, thanks very much for saying so, I had a really good day - sold out of everything I took down which was encouraging and afforded me a few beers at least.
Yeah I'm a bit scared that the comic is a bit of a bummer, but thats just how its been - I didn't want to leave anything out or edit it at all as that would invalidate the idea of making it, but for the first time in the few years I've been doing it I'm actually a little scared and embarrassed by whats there...
Anyway, what I did realise is that I didn't manage to even come round and pick up any of the other exhibitors stuff, including yours which I was really looking forward to seeing. I imagine that there will be another opportunity soon though.
Hope this finds you well sir,
James
Hello there! I really like your work...particularly loving 'The Inflatable Batman' on your site! (Also, 'The Return of The Inflatable Batman', of course.)
I was in the show inside the lovely new building and yes, my Evelyn Waugh cover was there too. Unfortunately for us, most of our course was not spent at Bower but actually Bush House, in a small office space at the back of the Arnolfini. Quaint!
I have been known to haunt Park Street on occasion - the last time I went to the Boston Tea Party I was troubled by an angry wasp but 'tis a good place. Haven't been to Woodes though, must try there sometime :).
You are right though... and I agree about the creative angle of this place... can't help but get some confidence from the nice comments too, especially when you generally show your work to friends and family who just think your a nut when they see it! The obligatory "that's nice, what do you want for tea?" doesn't help much... although tea was nice. ^_^
